The Boston Celtics are still on a winning streak, but it came with a bit of a setback. Jayson Tatum had to leave the game early after landing awkwardly, and that raised some concerns. With the playoffs just around the corner, this couldn't have happened at a worse time. Coach Joe Mazzulla talked about the situation after the game, giving some thoughts on what’s next for Tatum, who’s a key player for the team.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla provides an optimistic update on Jayson Tatum's ankle sprain post-game
Before he had to go, Jayson was having an amazing game. In just 26 minutes, he scored 25 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out eight assists. The injury happened with just over three minutes left in the third quarter when Tatum landed on Kings center Domantas Sabonis' foot after shooting a three-pointer.
Sabonis was called for a flagrant foul for getting too close to Tatum's landing area. Even though he was hurting, Tatum still managed to shoot his free throws, making one out of two, before heading to the locker room for a check-up.
After Tatum left, the Celtics showed they had a strong bench. Guard Payton Pritchard stepped up and scored 22 points, hitting five threes. Kristaps Porzingis added 16 points and eight rebounds, while Derrick White matched Tatum with eight assists. Thanks to everyone’s effort, the Celtics kept control of the game, increased their lead, and ended up winning.
Tatum has been a huge part of the Celtics’ success this season, averaging 27.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists each game. His leadership and performance have really helped the team.
While it’s still unclear how serious his ankle sprain is, Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla provided an update on Jayson Tatum's condition following the team's victory over the Sacramento Kings.
Mazzulla stated that Tatum "seems to be doing OK" and is currently icing his left ankle after spraining it during the game. He added, "I know he'll do anything and everything to make sure he gets better."
