Now, popular American rapper, Cam’ron has taken some of the blame upon himself.
Rapper Cam’ron blames himself for LaMelo Ball’s anti-gay slur
In a post-match interview, Charlotte Hornets’ 23-year-old star LaMelo Ball said, “No homo,” after his team secured the win over Bucks. His comment immediately took off and sparked a huge discussion online. Amid the controversy the NBA showed no-tolerance stance as the league respond the "offensive and derogatory" comment with a $100,000 fine.
Now, musician and rapper Cam’ron has responded to the incident on his Come And Talk 2 Me podcast. “I blame myself. I really do man,” he said during his interview in the podcast.
The Killa Cam / Roll That Skit and Oh Boy singer added, “I blame the east side of Harlem. You got this in Jefferson Projects probably in 1996 when we were saying this. And before that what the f**k, god damn we did this a long time. To be honest with you we started saying pause. We used to say what Melo said but we was like the people are sensitive.”
As for the Hornets star, he has apologized for his comment after the NBA imposed the fine on him. "Before we get started, I just want to address the comment yesterday," he told reporters after facing 128-114 defeat by the Cavaliers. "I really didn't mean anything [by it] and don't want to offend anybody. I've got love for everybody, and I don't discriminate," he added.
Hornets coach Charles Lee also responded to the viral moment that put Ball into the huge controversy. "As an organization, that is obviously not something we condone. Our standards and what is required of our players in the environment we create is really important to us," he told the press.
He also assured that Ball was remorseful of his statement and he will not do such behavior in the future. "I spoke to Melo and he's obviously very apologetic. From what I've seen since I've been around him, he loves everyone. He's a joy to have around the facility and it's not typically how he operates. He and I talked about the seriousness of the situation and how he needs to conduct himself going forward," the coach added.
