Former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson has recently showered praise for the Lakers veteran star LeBron James’ historic 50,000 career points. The Tuesday night’s 136-115 win over the New Orleans Pelicans was a huge statement from the Lakers, but all eyes were on James’ historic milestone as he was just one point away to claim the stunning record that no other NBA player in history ever reached.

LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to surpass 50,000 combined points in the regular season and playoffs, reaching the milestone with a three-pointer early in the first quarter. The record-breaking shot, fittingly assisted by his new teammate Luka Doncic, sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Following the game, Lakers icon Magic Johnson took to social media to congratulate James on his historic feat.

“Congratulations to the King LeBron James for becoming the only player in NBA history to score 50,000 regular season and playoff points!” the $1.6 billion rich (per Forbes) Johnson wrote on X acknowledging the fellow Lakers billionaire.

The Lakers organization honored the moment during a timeout, with the arena announcer declaring, “Ladies and gentlemen, we all have just witnessed history.” The crowd responded with a standing ovation, and James acknowledged them with waves from the bench.

James finished the game with 34 points, further extending his record as the league’s all-time leading scorer. “I mean, that’s a lot of points. Obviously, the first thing that comes to mind is where I’m from. Picking up the game when I was a little kid and having a love for the sport, and hoping that someday I’d be able to play at the highest level. I’ve been able to do that and really enjoy my career. So it’s definitely an honor. It’s pretty cool to see that,” the 40-year-old said after the game.

While LeBron’s accomplishment was the night’s biggest highlight, Luka Doncic also delivered a masterful performance with 30 points and 15 assists. Since his blockbuster trade from Dallas last month, Doncic has helped the Lakers bounce back, who are now 11-2 with him in the lineup. The Slovenian basketball star also reacted to James’ milestone, saying that it was “amazing” and he might get to “70k” in the future.

Despite his age, James shows no signs of slowing down. As he put it, “Just not falling out of love with the process … that’s the hardest thing. Every single year, you know it’s going to be a long season. Trying not to fall out of love with the process is the hardest thing.” Now, it is 50,033 and counting, and fans and analysts expect an even bigger number before he bids farewell to the game and his legendary career.
