Last year action hero Akshay Kumar had announced that he would adopt wrestlers from Mumbai after attending the All India Wrestling Championship.

MUMBAI: Last year action hero Akshay Kumar had announced that he would adopt wrestlers from Mumbai after attending the All India Wrestling Championship.
Shri. Sanjay Nirupam, General Secretary, MPCC has been organizing this tournament for the past 9 years to promote and encourage wrestling -one of the oldest forms of sports in India.
Akshay Kumar was invited for the 2008[last year] championship where he had expressed his desire to adopt a few wrestlers.

Keeping an eye on the Olympics games Sanjay Nirupam organized matches between local wrestlers and selected the best 6 out of them.
These selected 6 wrestlers were introduced to Akshay Kumar and the formal decision on the adoption scheme was made on 27th January 2009.
The name of the 6 wrestlers are Ranjeet Nalawade from Kolapur, Amol Patil from Jalgoan, Gopal Yadav from Mumbai, Kallu Yadav from Mumbai, Ajay Yadav from Mumbai and Bipin Varma from Mumbai.
As part of the scheme Akshay Kumar will be taking care of the diet of the 6 wrestlers for the next coming 5 years.
This year the 'All India Wrestling Championship-2009' will be held on 1st February, 2009 at Andheri Sports' Complex, Andheri (West), Mumbai.
