Sift Kaur Samra wins bronze as Munich World Cup concludes
NEW DELHI: Indian shooter Sift Kaur Samra secured the bronze medal in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions event at the ISSF World Cup (Rifle/Pistol) in Munich on Friday, falling short of the silver by a mere 0.1 points to China's Han Jiayu, the current air rifle women's world champion.
Great Britain's world number one Seonaid Mcintosh clinched the gold with a score of 466.7.
India concluded the tournament with two medals, including Sarabjot Singh's gold in the men's 10m air pistol on Thursday.
The women's 3P final experienced a minor delay due to an issue with Danish Olympian Ibsen Rekke Maeng's electronic target system during the kneeling position.
Seonaid had already established a substantial lead by the end of this stage, while Sift found herself in seventh place.
As the competition progressed to the second prone position, Seonaid maintained her dominance, leading by nearly three points over second-placed Chinese shooter Zhang Qiongyue. Sift, meanwhile, fought her way up to fifth with an impressive round.
In the final standing position, Sift showcased her prowess with a remarkable second five-shot series, propelling her to a joint bronze medal position alongside China's Han Jiayu, the reigning world champion in women's 10m air rifle.
Sift was now in her elements and after the 43rd shot of the 45-shot final. She had climbed up to second, but eventually had to settle for bronze by the narrowest of margins.
In the men's 3P final, which featured accomplished shooters such as two-time Olympian Milutin Stefanovic, top rifle shooter Istvan Peni of Hungary, world-record holder Yukun Liu of China, the in-form Jiri Privratsky of the Czechia, and world championship bronze medallist Jon-Hermann Hegg of Norway, India's Aishwary Tomar struggled to recover from a slow start and was eliminated in eighth place with a score of 408.9 after 40 shots.
Norwegian Ole Martin Halvorsen (464.3) emerged victorious, edging out Peni by 0.2 in a closely contested final, while Hegg secured the bronze with 449.9.
