MUMBAI: Himanshu Talan of Army Marksmanship Unit emerged triumphant in the senior category of the 14th RR Lakshya Cup at the Lakshya Shooting Club in the Karnala Sports Academy premises in Panvel, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday. The competition was conducted by Olympian Suma Shirur.
The 23-year-old Talan tallied 251.2 to emerge victorious by a comfortable margin. He finished 2.2 points ahead of his nearest rival, Maharashtra's Mohit Gowda (249.0).
Talan, who was slow to begin as he was not in the top three after the first five shots, pulled up his socks and finished second after the second set of five shots. But from the first elimination round, Talan was leading all the way. He shot two Perfect-10s (a score of 10.9) in the 16th and 17th shots.
Punjab's 15-year-old Ojasvi Thakur shot a brilliant 252.0 after 24 shots to pip Haryana's Talwar Singh (251.5) to clinch gold in the junior category and bag a cash prize of Rs 75,000. Navy's Ajay Malik won bronze with 229.8 score.
The School Games Federation of India gold winner, Ojasvi from Mohali, was consistently leading from the first shot except for a rare drop to second after seven rounds. But she regained her focus and composure to never look back until the end.
