Initiated by former shooter

Shimon Sharif

, Indian shooters like Manu Bhaker (pistol),

Divyansh Singh Panwar

, Sanjeev Rajput (both rifle) will take on their international competitors like Hungarian Veronica Major (pistol) and Sidi Peter (rifle) in the International Online Shooting Competition at 4 pm IST.

The competitors will log in through Zoom app from their respective locations and shoot using their Electronic Shooting Targets (EST), while the scores will be checked by an international jury, online.

The competition will certainly help the elite shooters check where they stand and that too within a budget less than a rifle stand.

"The only expense here is the slot booking charges of the app, which is $55 (Rs 4,200 approx). There is no other expense at all," Sharif told TOI.

"The participants will be shooting 40 shots each in both rifle and pistol matches. They will be required to put a camera in front of them, so that the jury can see them shooting. Their electronic targets and monitors will be checked before and after the match," he added.

The current situation, where shooters worldwide are craving for some completion, inspired him to conduct an online meet.

"Due to the lockdown, shooters are only training at their respective places, but they need competitions to check where they stand. Since all the international competitions have been scrapped this year, I thought online meets will be an ideal solution to the situation," he said.

Though the competition will be conducted as per international rules, Sharif said there won’t be any disqualifications if there is any technical glitch on the shooters’ part.

"Even if a shooter gets disconnected or has some glitch with the streaming and the jury can’t see them, they will be asked to continue shooting and finish their match. The jury can see their final score at the end of the match. Since this meet doesn’t have anything at stake, and personal assessment is the only motive here, we expect everybody to play fair. We have invited only the elite shooters for this meet, we can expect the fairness from them," he said.

The International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) may take a note or two.
