NEW DELHI: Mona Agarwal of India secured her second medal in the ongoing Para Shooting World Cup, claiming a silver in the Mixed Team Air Rifle Standing (SH1) event alongside Aadithya Giri on Sunday. On a successful day for the hosts, Indian para-shooters won two silver and two bronze medals.
In the Mixed Team 10m Air Pistol (SH1) gold-medal match, Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Manish Narwal and partner Rubina Francis faced a 12-16 defeat against China's Li Min and Yang Chao. India also earned a bronze in the same event, with Bhakti Sharma and Rudransh Khandelwal defeating the Cuban pair of Yenigladys Suarez and Loriga Rodriguez 16-8.
Mona Agarwal, who had previously clinched an individual gold and secured a Paris Paralympic berth, partnered with Giri but settled for silver after losing to the Chinese pair of Zhong Yixin and Dong Chao with a score of 16-4 in the final.
In the same event, the Indian pair of Avani Lekhara and Mahavir Swaroop, who competed for the bronze, were defeated by the Ukrainian duo of Iryna Shchetnik and Andrii Doroshenko with a similar margin.
The qualification round saw Mona and Giri scoring 622.9 to set up a gold-medal clash with the Chinese pair, who topped the round with an aggregate of 627.9. Only the top two teams in mixed team events advance to the gold-medal match, while the bottom two compete for bronze.
In the Mixed Team 10m Air Rifle Standing (SH2) event, India's Pawani Banoth and Satya Janardhana Rayana secured a bronze medal by defeating the New Zealand duo of Natalie Brunzel and Kiranjit Singh with a score of 17-15. The gold was won by Brazil's Jessica Daiane Michalack and Bruno Stov Kiefer.
Despite being the favorites, the Indian pair of Manish Narwal and Rubina Francis, who equaled the Qualification World Record in the preliminary round, faced disappointment in the Mixed Team 10m Air Pistol (SH1) event. They were defeated by the Chinese pair in the finals, settling for a silver medal.
