NEW DELHI: Double Olympic medallist
Manu Bhaker narrowly missed out on a podium finish, securing fourth place in the women’s 25m pistol competition at the Asian Shooting Championship on Monday. Fellow Indian
Esha Singh finished sixth in the eight-shooter final with 18 points. Bhaker ended with a score of 25, four short of Vietnam’s Thu Vinh Trinh, who took the bronze with 29.
India, however, stamped their dominance in the women’s 25m pistol junior final. Payal Khatri clinched gold with 36 points, Naamya Kapoor secured silver with 30, and Tejaswani claimed bronze with 27. The trio also combined to win the team silver with an aggregate of 1700, finishing behind Korea and ahead of hosts Kazakhstan.

Earlier, China’s Yueyue Zhang and Jiaruixuan Xiao battled for the senior women’s gold, with Zhang prevailing 4-3 in a shoot-off after both finished tied at 39.
In the team event, Bhaker, Esha, and Simranpreet Kaur Brar secured bronze for India with a combined score of 1749, behind China and South Korea.
Esha had topped the women’s 25m pistol qualifications, finishing ahead of Bhaker and eventual Chinese medallists Xiao and Zhang. Bhaker, who had already won two bronze medals in the women’s 10m air pistol individual and team events earlier in the tournament, was placed fourth after the precision stage of the 25m pistol qualifiers, while Esha was second.
