Asian Championship: Suruchi-Rana win silver in 10m air pistol mixed team

Indian shooters Suruchi Singh and Samrat Rana won silver in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Asian Championship on Thursday.India had earlier won gold in the women’s air pistol event with Esha Singh. The country also claimed gold in the women’s team event, while the men’s air pistol team won silver and world champion Samrat Rana took individual bronze on Wednesday. The Suruchi-Rana team scored 479.6, a new world and Asian junior record, but Uzbekistan won gold with 481.3.The Indian pair started strong with 100.5 in the first series and led the four-team final, but the Uzbek team, Nigina Saidkulova and Mukhammad Kamalov, took the lead by the third series and kept it through the elimination stage. Chinese Taipei finished third with 412.2.In the qualification round, Suruchi Singh, 19, and Samrat Rana scored 583. The Vietnamese pair, Vinh Thu Trinh and Minh Cong Lai, also scored 583, but India ranked ahead due to more “Inner 10s” (22 to 18).The second Indian team, Manu Bhaker and Sharvan Kumar, scored 571 and finished ninth, missing the final.India’s senior medals now include two golds, one silver, and one bronze.In the junior section, last year’s junior World Cup and Asian Championship winner won gold in the women’s 10m air pistol with 237.9, and Vanshika Chaudhary won silver with 236.7.The junior team of Vanshika (577), Rashmika (572), and Agam Grewal (565) won gold with a total of 1,714, ahead of Kazakhstan (1,671) and Sri Lanka (1,631).
