Asiad shooters set for overseas training camp
New Delhi : India’s shooting contingent bound for the upcoming Asian Games will undergo specialised overseas training camps in South Korea and Malaysia as part of their final build-up.
According to sources, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has devised a strategic plan to help shooters acclimatise to conditions similar to those expected during the Sept 19-Oct 4 event in Japan’s AichiNagoya. Air pistol and rifle shooters are set to train in Incheon, South Korea while shotgun shooters will likely head to Malaysia.
“The foreign training stint has been designed in such a way to replicate environmental and time-zone conditions comparable to Japan, allowing our shooters to adjust well in advance for the Asiad. The camp will begin on Sept 4 and continue until Sept 15 at both locations. Shooters will travel directly to Japan from there which will also save them time,” a source said. The shooting event at the Games is scheduled to start on Sept 17 and will run through Oct 3.
While the South Korea camp is nearly finalised, discussions are underway with the National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) to book a shooting range for the shotgun shooters.
Before heading overseas, Indian shooters will participate in their final international competition at the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol/ Shotgun in China’s Hangzhou from July 20 to 29. This will be followed by a two-week camp from mid-Aug at the Karni Singh Shooting Range (KSSR) here.
