Anjum Moudgil clinches silver in rifle 3P at Baku World Cup

Playing in her first international match post the Tokyo Olympics, shooter Anjum Moudgil bagged silver in the women’s 50m rifle 3position event at the ISSF World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday. Anjum, along with rest of the Indian shooters, had a forgettable outing in Tokyo. The Chandigarh shooter came back on road to redemption with a second-place finish.

PUNE: Playing in her first international match post the Tokyo Olympics, shooter Anjum Moudgil bagged silver in the women’s 50m rifle 3position event at the ISSF World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday.
Anjum, along with rest of the Indian shooters, had a forgettable outing in Tokyo. The Chandigarh shooter came back on road to redemption with a second-place finish.
Anjum shot 12 against Denmark’s Rikke Maeng Ibsen’s 16 to settle for silver in the gold medal match.

Anjum had qualified for the ranking round after shooting 587 and finishing fourth in the qualifications. In the ranking round, Anjum shot 406.5 to seal the second spot behind Ibsen, who scored 411.4. Top two shooters qualify for the gold medal match, while the third-placed shooter gets bronze. South Korea’s Eunseo Lee took bronze with 405.3.
Äfter Tokyo it was very important to get back and I was working on a lot of things. This was a very planned trip to Baku to see where I stand and me and my coach Deepali (Deshpande) mam are really happy that the job is done. It is great to win here,” Anjum told TOI after her match
Anjum admitted that she went through a tough phase post the Olympics but winning a medal will improve things.
“The low phase is ought to be there as the Olympics experience is too much to take. But I am really happy to win here and now looking forward to shooting my next match here and the Korea World Cup and then World Championships,” she added.

“It is amazing to see how she shot in the match and won silver,” national coach and former Olympian Joydeep Karmakar said.
The coach added that the shooters have been aggressive in their approach now. “They were defensive earlier. Now look mentally tougher and have been aggressive in their approach,” the coach said.
The Indian men’s 50m rifle 3P team comprising Swapnil Kusale, Deepak Kumar and Goldie Gurjar also bagged silver.
