World Archery Championships: Deepika Kumari to lead Indian challenge

KOLKATA: Deepika Kumari will lead India's challenge in recurve at the forthcoming World Archery Championships to be held in Copenhagen from July 26 to August 2. Laxmi Rani Majhi and Rimil Buriuly are the other two members of the women's squad. The men's team will comprise of Olympians Rahul Banerjee, Mangal Singh Champia and Jayanta Talukdar.
The World Championships will provide archers from all over the world their first chance to earn a ticket to next year's Rio Olympics.More than 500 archers from 100 countries are expected to take part in the tournament.
India can earn a team berth or an individual berth for the Rio Games in Copenhagen. The Indian squads were named after a selection trial that was spread over three days in Patiala. Champia, the lone male participant in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, was in superb form, winning the NRAT and following it up by qualifying for the Indian team on the very first day of the selection trial.

Compound - Men's: Abhishek Verma, Rajat Chauhan, Kawalpreet Singh, C Jignesh. Women's: Purvasha Shende, V Jyothi Surekha, P Lily Chanu, Priyanshu Kachhap.
