CHENNAI: The women's singles final of the

PSA Challenger

held at Indian Squash Academy between Tanvi Khanna and

Sunayna Kuruvilla

went down to the wire on Thursday. Tanvi saved three match points enroute to registering a hard-fought 3-2 (11-5, 9-11, 7-11, 11-7, 15-13) win over Sunayna. This was Tanvi's maiden PSA Challenger crown.

The men's final, however, proved to be a one-sided affair as

Velavan Senthilkumar

beat

Abhishek Pradhan

in straight games 11-7, 11-8 and 11-5.

Sunayna started off on a positive note as she clinched the opening game with ease (11-5). Tanvi regrouped quickly to clinch the next two games 11-9, 11-7. Sunayna, the top seed, pocketed the fourth game 11-7 to take the clash into the decider. Both players fought tooth and nail and Sunayna had two match points on 10-8 but Tanvi saved both of them. At 11-10, Sunayna once again had an opportunity to wrap things up but Tanvi saved it as well. Tanvi put an end to the 44-minute encounter by winning the decider 15-13.

The men's singles final, in contrast, saw Velavan delivering a sturdy performance from start to finish. The 25-minute contest commenced with Velavan winning the opening game 11-7. He looked largely untroubled as he went on to win the next two games 11-8, 11-5 to win his second PSA crown.
