Sheraz Sunderji inquiry to reopen?
MUMBAI: The stewards of the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) may reconvene the meeting to debate the decision taken on Thursday with regards to giving conditional reprieve to trainer Sheraz Sunderji after a Maharashtra Food & Drug Administration (FDA) report confirmed that feed supplements given to horses, which were disqualified last year, had traces of steroid Boldenone.

During the stewards meeting last Thursday, when the decision to clear the name of Sunderji from the records was taken, two prominent members of the stewards' body, Khushroo Dhunjibhoy and Vijay Shirke, were absent. They reportedly claims that they were intentionally not allowed to participate. "The item was on agenda last Thursday and I intended to sit in the inquiry as I'm entitled to do so and also Sunderji is not my trainer. The matter will be discussed Sunday after which stewards will decide if there should be a fresh inquiry or not," Dhunjibhoy told TOI.
But RWITC chairman Vivek Jain says keeping the duo out of the meeting was not intentional and the secretariat inadvertently did not intimate them for the meeting as they have not been taking part in the Boldenone inquiry. "It was inadvertent. I have requested Dhunjibhoy to withdraw the objection or else the stewards may reconsider to reconvene the Sunderji inquiry," Jain told TOI. "It may be realised that the inquiry on three trainers are all similar and some stewards have taken the view that they will either sit on all or none, as the bias can creep in on the overall subject. Finally the participation is left to the discretion of individual steward."
Jain also said that the decision taken over Sunderji is not likely to change. "The decision was taken by five stewards, in consultation with the club's counsel and the same would likely to stand."
