Kulvir
and
Dev Sharma have excelled in the 6th
Bengal Open Squash tournament
held recently in Kolkata.
While Kulvir emerged champion in the U-17 category, younger sibling Dev had to be satisfied with the runner-up spot in the U-13 section.
Kulvir stunned top seed

3-2 in a tough and close fight in the U-17 final. The tall and lanky Kulvir won 11-5, 9-11, 7-11, 11-5, 12-10 to stamp his authority in style.
However, Dev could not overcome the top seed in the U-13 category and went down to 0-3 against Sandhesh PR.
Earlier fifth seed Kulvir Sharma, with his unbeatable stamina and spirit shocked second seed Armaan Darukhanawalla in straight games with scores of 12-10, 11-1, 11-6 in the quarterfinals. He went on to thump fourth seed
Suryansh Kumar
3-1 in the semis to set up summit clash against top seed Arnav Mandhana.
"I am really very happy with my overall performance in Kolkata. The competition was very tough and I managed to upset couple of seeds to emerge champion. I am in good form and want to maintain the tempo in the next few tournaments," said Kulvir.
Sixth seed Dev upset third seed Aakash Kannan 11-6, 11-7, 11-8. With this win, Dev avenged his earlier two losses against Aakash. In the semis, Dev once again recorded straight-game win over Udit Mishra of Jaipur to set up final date with top seed Sandhesh.
Kulvir and Dev Sharma have also won gold medals in the IPSC squash tournament held in Rashtriya Military College, Dehradun recently, in which about 15 public schools participated. Their school Mayo College also lifted the gold trophies in the team event in the U-14 and U-17 age categories, for the second consecutive year.
Both Kulvir and Dev gave the credit of their success to their coaches Vijay Jangra and Vikas Jangra of Mayo College Ajmer and Chetan Singh Rathore in Nagpur. Sharma brothers now look forward to their next tournament, the Western Slam, organized by SRFI in Mumbai next week.
