Achanta Sharath Kamal is the first Indian to win an ITTF event in 2012.

Sathiyan, a 24-year-old from Chennai, made several upsets, starting in the second round when he beat world number 103 Jon Persson.

In the quarterfinals, he defeated world number 75 Steffen Mengel before eventually winning against world number 113 Cedric in the final.
