MUMBAI:
Richard Hughes, one of the leading jockeys in the world, suspended by the stewards of the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) for foul riding in a case of elbowing jockey S Zervan in the Morellato by Gitanjali Lifestyle Million, filed an appeal against his suspension on Monday.
The Board of Appeal (BOA) of the RWITC is likely to hear Irish rider's appeal next week.
According to sources, if the BOA fails to hear the appeal by Friday, January 20, then there will be a stay on the suspension and this will enable Hughes, who is suspended from January 22 to February 26 (both days inclusive), get a chance to ride in the Indian Oaks.
This third classic race of the Mumbai season, to be sponsored by Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd, will be run on Sunday, January 22.
