NAGPUR: The girls team of Nagpur district stormed into the final of the Maharashtra State Inter-District Youth (U-16) Basketball Championship in Mumbai on Friday.
In an exciting semifinal, Nagpur girls quelled the challenge of Thane 46-41 to book their berth in the final where they will clash with Pune. Shruti Sherigar notched up 24 points to help Pune thrash Mumbai North 55-15 in the other semifinal.
Nagpur girls fought back in tremendous manner to shatter the hopes of formidable Thane. At half-time, Nagpur were trailing by 13-21.
However, after the change of ends, Nagpur bounced back particularly in the fourth and last quarter (22-10) where they completely dominated the proceedings. Rasika Pande (15), Rucha Aurangabadkar (9) and Shreya Dandekar (8) played well for Nagpur.
In the quarterfinals, Nagpur trounced Amravati 46-30.
However, it was curtains for Nagpur boys when they were beaten by Mumbai South West 17-36 in the semis.

Quarterfinals (Girls): Nagpur (Shreya Dandekar 16, Rasika Pande 10, Siddha Deshmukh 7, Rucha Aurangabadkar 6) bt Amravati (Vaidehi Bhartiya 12, Sukhada Deshmukh 5, Vedanti Kolhe 5) 46-30 (8-8, 11-12, 19-8, 8-2).
