NAGPUR: Nagpur district cagers had a fruitful day in the Maharashtra State Junior Basketball tournament being played at Nashik.
Nagpur girls sailed into the quarterfinals with their second victory, while boys booked their place in the last 16 on Thursday.
According to the reports reaching here, Nagpur girls after losing to Thane on Wednesday by ten points bounced back in style to trounce Aurangabad 64-34.
From the word go, Nagpur girls were on top and never gave any chance to their opponents.
Shreya Dandekar (18) and Siddha Deshmukh (14) were the chief architects of Nagpur win. Rasika Pande (9), Rucha Aurangabadkar (7), Sneha Tembhre, Smruti Iyear and Satakshi Kedia (4 each) offered valuable support. For Aurangabad, Sanjana Jagtap (13) and Khushi Dongre (12) tried hard but in vain.
Nagpur boys, who got a walk-over from Parbhani on Wednesday, registered a thumping 36-16 win over Bhandara. The quarter-wise score was 14-2, 6-2, 6-10, 10-4. Yash Jiwtode was the top-scorer with 16 points, while Tejas Bhute and Saurabh Mankar contributed six points each.
