Indian Open Squash: Top seed Ramit Tandon sent packing

MUMBAI: The pressure of playing in front of the home crowd can be telling, ask Indian squash star Ramit Tandon and he wouldn’t disagree.

The 33rd-ranked player in the world, who is top seed at the ongoing JSW Indian Open Squash, fell to unseeded Malaysian Ameeshenraj Chandran after winning the first two sets and lost 3-2 (11-5, 11-1, 6- 11, 4-11, 6-11) at the Bombay Gymkhana on Tuesday.

“I don’t want to take away the credit from my opponent (Chandran). He really played well, but definitely I was overwhelmed by the pressure of being a top seed at home,” Ramit told TOI after the match.

“But no matter how well you prepare, a slight dip in concentration here or there can shake your confidence and it’s a regular struggle during matches,” said the 32-year-old, who does breathing exercises and yoga for mental toughness.
