NEW DELHI:The Indian men's recurve archery team, consisting of Tarundeep Rai, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Pravin Jadhav, secured the top position in the 24-team elimination round at the Final Olympic Qualifier on Saturday.
The trio accumulated a total of 2018 points, surpassing Chinese Taipei (2008) and Germany (1998) in the leaderboard. Out of the 46 participating teams, the top-24 advanced to the elimination round, which features a draw of 32.
As a result of their top ranking, India received a bye into the last-16, where they are set to face Luxembourg, the 17th seed. The three highest-ranked nations in the elimination round will secure the Paris Olympic quota places in the men's recurve team event.
If India manages to finish among the top-three, their individual quota will be upgraded to a team quota. Notably, Dhiraj had already secured an individual quota earlier in the competition.
In contrast, the Indian women's recurve team, comprising Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur, and Ankita Bhakat, suffered a disappointing 3-5 loss to lower-ranked Ukraine in the pre-quarterfinals on Friday, failing to secure a quota.
However, the women's team still has a chance to qualify based on their rankings before the Paris Olympics cut-off date.
