India bag 11 medals in Asian youth Sport Climbing Meet

An Indian contingent returned with a rich haul of 11 medals, including four gold and five silver, from the Asian Youth Sport Climbing Championship held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

NEW DELHI: An Indian contingent returned with a rich haul of 11 medals, including four gold and five silver, from the Asian Youth Sport Climbing Championship held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Secretary of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation Col H S Chauhan said the contingent also finished runners-up in overall team championship, just behind the hosts.
Altogether eight teams -- including South Korea , Hong Kong, Japan, Iran , Kyrgyzstan am Uzbekistan -- took part in this competition which ended on July 28.

Brig D K Khullar, Chairman of the Sport Climbing Committee of Indian Mountaineering Foundation, said Senjam Debala Devi from Manipur won two gold alone, one each in Speed climbing and Relay Speed Climbing for mixed junior, besides a silver in overall performance for under-19 girls.
Neha Prakash from Karnataka got a gold in 'lead competition' for U-17 girls. Neha also earned a silver in overall performance in her age group.
The fourth gold was claimed by Ankit Sharma of Rajasthan, who took the pride of place in Relay Speed for mixed Junior.
Sujam Limbu from West Bengal won three silver medals in Lead Competition, Relay Speed and in overall performance in U-17 boys categories while Chea Marak of Karnataka won two bronzes in Speed Competition and Relay Speed for U-15 girls.
Manager for Sport Climbing in IMF Harish Mumgain informed that the next National Sport Climbing Championship would be held in November.
