Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 38th National Games in Dehradun on Tuesday, Modi emphasized the transformative impact of hosting the Olympics.

"We are making every effort to secure the hosting rights for the 2036 Olympics, which will take Indian sports to new heights," Modi said during his address.

"The Olympics bring widespread benefits to every sector and significantly enhance facilities for athletes," he added.

India’s intention to host the 2036 Games was first expressed by Modi during the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) session held in Mumbai in 2023. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has since submitted an official expression of interest to the IOC.
