CHANDIGARH:
Haryana chief minister
Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday has assured para-athletes of being provided jobs within a month.
Paralympian Amit Saroha, Deepa Malik, Rampal, Jaideep and Tarun met the chief minister at his residence, who later tweeted that all the para-athletes had made Haryana proud at the world stage and they would get their rewards.
2018 Asian Para Games gold medallist Amit Saroha heaped praises on the chief minister, saying, "A lot of para-athletes leave the sport mid-way in their career due to lack of funds or job.
I am really glad that our efforts have been noticed by the state government."
"Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar along with Deepinder Singh Dhesi, chief secretary, have given their assurance that all the medal winners will get their job letters within a month," he added.
Star para-athlete Deepa Malik, who had won the silver medal in women's shot put F-53 event in 2016 Rio Paralympics Games, said the assurance from the chief minister is big confidence booster for the athletes.
"My silver medal in Rio Paralympics Games has now become worth its weight. The Haryana government will ensure financial independence for the para athletes in the state. It will also motivate players who have won medals at Asian or Commonwealth Games to achieve more and do the state and country proud," said Deepa.
