NEW DELHI: The Indian women's recurve archery team, led by Deepika Kumari and comprising Bhajan Kaur and Ankita Bhakat, was eliminated in the second round of the Final World Quota Tournament, failing to secure a spot for the Paris Olympics 2024.

The event took place in Antalya, where the team faced off against the Ukrainian trio of Veronika Marchenko, Anastasia Pavlova, and Olha Chebotarenko in a Round of 16 match. Initially, the Indian team held a lead with a score of 3-1 after the first four sets.

However, the Ukrainian team managed to overturn the deficit, ultimately winning the match with a final score of 5-3.

Earlier, in May, the team concluded its participation in the Archery World Cup 2024 Stage 2 without securing any medals. During this competition, Deepika Kumari was the sole Indian contender in the medal rounds on the final day.

Competing in the women's individual recurve archery bronze medal match, Kumari was defeated by Alejandra Valencia of Mexico with a score of 4-6.

This victory allowed the Ukrainian team, consisting of Marchenko, Pavlova, and Chebotarenko, to advance to the semi-finals of the women's team event, thereby securing a quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Going forward, the Indian women's team, despite this setback, will have another opportunity to qualify for the Olympics through the individual round of competitions.
