MELBOURNE: Test cricket great David Boon's son, Jack, could face assault charges over an on-field clash during an Australian Rules Football match in Tasmania.
North Hobart's Daniel Newitt had his nose broken in a collision with Clarence player Jack Boon during a Tasmanian State League match last month.
Jack was not reported by the match umpire. AFL Tasmania, after reviewing footage of the clash, concluded that Jack was attempting to tackle and Newitt had slipped, and it decided against referring the matter to the league's tribunal.
Newitt then lodged a complaint to the police. "AFL Tasmania didn't deal with the problem at hand to start with, that's pretty much it really," Newitt was quoted as saying by ABC television channel.
"If he had gone to the tribunal and if he didn't get weeks or if he did get two weeks for it, or whatever, it wouldn't really bother me but it didn't go to the tribunal so I felt like I had to take it into my own hands."
