KOLKATA: Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra was chosen as the 'Best Sportperson of the Year 2008' by the Calcutta Sports Journalists Club (CSJC) on Tuesday.
The CSJC also decided to honour son of hockey legend Dhyanchand, Ashok Kumar, and adventurer Bachendri Pal with the Lifetime Achievement Awards, while paddler Ankita Das was adjudged the Best Junior Sportperson of the Year.
Ankita, who is the reigning national Junior champion, has won five national titles in last six years. The 16-year-old recently emerged champion in the Indian Open Under-21 Girls' singles category.
The annual awards will be given on March 28.
