Angel, Gauri to represent India at World Sub-Junior Sqay Championship in Malaysia

NAGPUR: Gadchiroli girl Angel Deokule and Nagpur's Gauri Gokhale will represent India in the World Sub-Junior Sqay Championship slated to be held at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
Both 10-year-old Angel and 13-year-old Gauri are the only players from the Maharashtra who will represent the Indian team in the world championship which is likely to be held in September-end.
President of the Sqay Association of Maharashtra Mazhar Khan while addressing the media said, "So far Angel has clinched 23 gold medals in various state and national-level competitions. She also got an honour as the world's youngest player and can deliver 187 hits in one minute. Similarly, Gauri has captured 18 medals so far in her category."
Gauri, a Standard VIII student of Sandipani School, and Angel won gold medals in the 5th Asian Sqay Championship held at Thailand in April, 2017. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis lauded their efforts and wished them best luck for future events.
About sqay, Mazhar Khan said, "This game is recognized by ministry of youth affairs and sports of government of India and is being played in 36 districts of Maharashtra.
At the Asian meet in Thailand, Vidarbha players bagged 19 gold, 2 silver and three bronze medals. During tri-nation competition held at Nepal, Vidarbha displayed outstanding performance, he informed.
Anant Dakshindas, coach Sandeep Peddapalli and parents of both the players were present at the press conference.
Sandeep Peddapalli is the sports teacher at Gadchiroli-based School of Scholars. He is also the coach of sqay and trains Angel in the morning and evening session. Angel's parents said coach does not charge any fees and teaches their daughter free of cost.
