AHMEDABAD: The 50 Plus Annual Cup tested the elderly talent at the Go Golf BMW-Gulmohar Open 2015-2016 played at the Gulmohar Greens Golf and Country Club course. Ladies and gentleman, all 50 plus, came together to play a new format in the golfing calendar to transform the niche sport for the masses and transcend the age brackets in favour of popularizing the sport.
This follows the successfully launched Western India Inter-Club Challenge and the Gujarat Inter-School Championship starting last December. The 50 plus event was played in Stableford format with Double Peoria.
Stableford refers to a scoring system where it involves scoring points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole and not the total number of strokes taken, as in stroke play. Peoria on the other hand, is an artificial handicapping system used for one-time events.
"It was wonderful to see the seniors all geared up to hit the perfect tee. This is the third event in our golf calendar that we pulled off with success. Compared to the previous rounds, this time it was a display of techniques that has perfected over time. It only took us closer to our objective of popularizing golf and founding favour among all age groups and enhance Indian prospects in the game in the international arena," said Alpesh Parikh, MD of Gulmohar.
There were prizes worth Rs 1 lakh at stake with nine individual categories and five in lucky draw.
