Dhanalakshmi’s timing wasn’t enough to breach the Olympic qualification mark set at 11.15 seconds for the event. “The aim was to not only perform well but also make the grade for the Olympics. I wish my timing could have been better. Having said that, winning a gold is special and I hope to train harder and get better,”

Dhanalakshmi

told TOI.

Dhanalakshmi made headlines at the

Federation Cup

in March this year when she had beaten Dutee and Hima Das to win the 100m women’s final. “That was my first gold medal at a senior National meet and will remain special. It is obviously nice to win events that have the best in the country running in it,” she added.

Meanwhile, the men's 400m hurdles final saw Kerala’s Jabir Palliyalil (49.78 seconds) clinching gold while TN’s K Sathish and Pravin Kumar were second and third with timings of 51.9 and 52.77 respectively. A Sherin was the other notable performer for TN --- winning silver in the women's long jump of 6.26M. Shaili Singh of Uttar Pradesh won gold with a 6.48M jump while Haryana’s Renu (6.17M) settled for bronze.
