BHUBANESWAR: International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) president Sebastian Coe is principally in favour of the European Athletics Council's radical proposal to clean up the record book by erasing some of the most talked-about marks that were set before 2005.
Coe said the IAAF is likely to deliberate upon it soon. "We are likely to discuss it before this Christmas," Coe said while speaking to reporters during his visit to Bhubaneswar for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championship.

"Sometimes records are a hindrance to the sport. Many opt not to try thinking they can go beyond those records. In that way, we lose potential competitors," Coe said. The IAAF president, however, added there's a long way to go for the policy to see the light of the day.
