President Pranab Mukherjee congratulates Rio Paralympics champions

NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday congratulated Mariyappan Thangavelu and Varun Bhati on winning gold and bronze respectively in men's High Jump event at Rio Paralympics.
In his message, the President said their success is a matter of great pride which will serve as an inspiration to all the sportspersons of the country.
"I congratulate you and wish you the very best for the future," he said.
Thangavelu won the Gold medal with his best jump of 1.89 meters, while Bhati's best effort of 1.86 meters fetched him the bronze. The silver medal in this event went to USA's Sam Grewe who also registered the same mark of 1.86 meters.
