NEW DELHI: Promising athlete
Muhammed Anas Yahiya came up with yet another sterling display as he won the gold medal, bettering his own
400m
Indian record with the timing of 45.24s, at the
Cena Noveho Mesta nad Metuji
meet in Czech Republic on Saturday.
Anas's previous best timing was 45.31 seconds which he set at the
2018 Commonwealth Games
in Gold Coast but missed the bronze medal by a whisker.
Anas became only the second Indian man to enter the finals of the Commonwealth Games after
Milkha Singh, who won gold in the 440 yards race at Cardiff in 1958.
Athletics Federation of India (AFI) took to Twitter to congratulate Anas and foreign coach
Galina Bukharina
for the success.
MR Poovamma also brought laurels for the country by winning the women's 400m race clocking 53.01 seconds. Sprinter
Rajiv Arokia
finished third in the men's 200m with a timing of 20.77s.
