THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,: Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan condoled the death of Olympian and 1978 Asian Games gold medallist
Suresh Babu during the ongoing 34th National Games at Ranchi on Saturday.
In his message, the chief minister said Suresh Babu's feats had earned a name for Kerala in sports worldwide.
"Suresh Babu left us at a time when he was playing a lead role in nurturing new talents in athletics from the state.
The death is a big loss the sports field in Kerala," he said.
Achuthanandan gave instructions to the chief secretary to make arrangements for bringing the body to the state.
Sports minister M Vijayakumar, in his message, expressed deep sorrow over the death of Suresh Babu and said the state had lost an athlete who earned Kerala a name outside the state and the country.
Vijayakumar said Suresh Babu was the architect of the state government's dream project 'go for gold' aimed at coaching athletes for the 2016 Olympics. He was acting as the technical director and coach of the 'Centre of Excellence' formed for the purpose.
