THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The
Athletics Federation of India
(AFI) looks to be in a tearing hurry to complete the backlog of events which were postponed owing to
Covid-19
pandemic.
On Saturday, the national
athletics
body announced that the 18th
National Federation Cup
Junior (under-20) Athletics Championship will be held at TT Nagar in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh from January 25.
The deadline to enter the names of the athletes will be January 20 not as reported earlier.
Moreover, the 36th National
Junior Athletics
Championships will be held at Guwahati, Assam from February 6 to 10.
However, the
Kerala State Athletics Association who had already announced to organize a trial to select the state team for Guwahati meet from January 17 to 19 at Calicut University in Tenjhipalam, Malappuram will now be organizing the trails for the youth simultaneously.
"Kerala opened the stadiums only on January 4. We will be holding the trials for the youth along with trials for the juniors at Malappuram on the same dates," PI Babu, secretary, KSSA told STOI.
In a way, it will be a blessing for the junior athletes as they can compete in both the championships.
A top KSAA told STOI that AFI is right on their part to host the junior meets as it will boost the athletes who have put in energy, time to get the certificates which will help them in their studies and even secure them land a job.
“In these difficult times, there is no time for blame games. With whatever resources, athletes’ priority should be right on top. That way AFI is doing their best,” he concluded.
