The 24-year-old went close to matching his 16.80m effort in the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Lucknow last week while Arpinder was unable to go past the 16.35m that he managed on his second attempt on Thursday, some distance short of the 16.83m that he delivered in winning at Lucknow.

In women's 100m dash, Odisha's Dutee Chand managed to clinch the gold by clocking 11.43 seconds but that wasn't enough for her either to qualify for the September 27-October 6 World Championships in Doha. Kerala's MV Jilna (11.77) and Madhya Pradesh's Indu Prasad (12.56) took the silver and bronze, respectively.

's Abha Khatua (16.01m) outsmarted Punjab's Navjeet Kaur Dhillon (15.71) to take the gold. Assam's Tunlai Narzary (13.54) settled for the bronze medal.
