It has been almost four years since Conor McGregor has stepped into the Octagon. His last bout was against Dustin Poirier, which he lost and suffered a leg injury as well. McGregor was supposed to face Michael Chandler at the UFC 303. However, the Irish fighter pulled out of the fixture owing to a toe injury. Despite his absence from the fighting scenario, McGregor remains relevant across the world of sports and has received praise from people in higher posts, including the president of the United States, Donald Trump. Owing to this popularity, over time, McGregor has expressed his interest in politics and even considered his nomination for the presidential post of Ireland. The Notorious visited the US president at the White House on St. Patrick’s Day, which many speculated was a step towards his political venture.

Conor McGregor visits The Oval Office on St. Patrick’s Day upon the US President’s invitation

Conor McGregor was invited by Donald Trump on St. Patrick’s Day to the Oval Office in Washington, DC. Trump, since long before, has shared a cordial relationship with the members of the combat sports community. Dana White, the UFC President, has been a close acquaintance of the US President for a very long time. At one point, Trump also appreciated and tagged Khabib Nurmagomedov as his favourite MMA fighter, which disappointed McGregor owing to his rivalry with the Dagestani fighter.
However, despite this, the Irish fighter received a very warm welcome at the Oval Office, where he met the President.
During their meeting, McGregor candidly praised the work of the US president and said, “Your work ethic is inspiring”
The pleasant exchange of words is not new between the two individuals. Few days back, while having a meeting with the politicians of Ireland, Trump appreciated McGregor for his fighting skills and tattoos. This came when the President of the United States was asked about his favourite Irishman.“Oh, there’s so many—are you kidding me? Well, I do happen to like your fighter; he’s got the best tattoos I’ve ever seen. Conor’s great, right? I’m talking about Conor. But you have a lot of great Irish fighters, actually. Great fighters.”
This has kind of boosted the confidence in McGregor, as it was pretty much evident through his recent tweet on a miscalculated judgment by the Irish judiciary. In the tweet, the Irish fighter was seen requesting the people to elect him as the President of Ireland. Towards the end of the tweet, he also mentioned Donald Trump and their plans for a scheduled meeting on St. Patrick’s Day.Also read: MMA Star Darren Till believes Khamzat Chimaev will leave a bigger legacy than Khabib NurmagomedovConor McGregor is highly hopeful about the meeting with the US President. His dream of the presidential run might just turn into a reality and this will hugely shape his political career. All we can do now is wait and see what happens next.
