Mauricio Ruffy calls out Islam Makhachev following his victory against King Green: “I’m on my path towards you”

Mauricio Ruffy showcased some extraordinary skills at the UFC 313 in his bout against King Green. Having knocked out the later with a spinning heel kick within less than 3 minutes into the first round, Ruffy has solidified his position and future run within the division. In the post-fight interview within the octagon, when Ruffy was asked about his probable next opponent, he called out Beneil Dariush, who was previously supposed to fight at UFC 311, but that fight didn’t happen. Ruffy went a step ahead to call out Islam Makhachev next at the “Ariel Helwani Show”, which has sent a wave of speculation amongst the fighting community.

Following his spectacular win and addition of one more to his series of knockouts, Ruffy is quite confident and ready to face whomever he is placed against next. While, the first player he named was Dariush, the Brazilian fighter did not hesitate to take a dig against the reigning UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev. On The Ariel Helwani Show, the fighter reflected upon his goal, stating, “Islam, I’m on my path towards you. I am on my way to becoming champion.”

This is not the first time Ruffy came at Makhachev post a win. After the Brazilian fighter knocked out Jamie Mullarkey at the UFC 301 with a flying knee in the opening round, Ruffy called out Makhachev at the post fight interview in the Octagon.

“I have a message for Islam Makhachev. I have a nice message. Hey, enjoy your days at the top. I know you are upset cause I beat you friend. But enjoy your days, cause a new king is coming”


Following the second call out now after the UFC 313, fans and critics speculate if this could set the stage for a potential rivalry that could culminate in a high-stakes championship bout.

Ruffy’s professional record speaks volumes about his finishing ability. With 11 of his 12 career victories coming via knockout or TKO, he has proven to be one of the most dangerous strikers in the lightweight division. His only defeat was against Manoel Sousa at the Standout Fighting Tournament 18.
