Jorge Masvidal believes the fight between Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria could go in two very different directions. According to him, Topuria’s striking power makes him a dangerous opponent for anyone in the division. But the moment the fight reaches the ground, Masvidal feels the advantage would strongly shift toward Makhachev.

Speaking on his podcast, Masvidal explained that Topuria’s speed and punching power could create problems early in the fight. However, he warned that if Makhachev manages to secure a takedown, the fight could quickly become extremely difficult for Topuria.

Masvidal suggested that Makhachev’s grappling ability is on a completely different level compared to most fighters. He pointed out that Topuria might have faster hands and the ability to knock opponents out, but dealing with Makhachev’s wrestling is a very different challenge.

Masvidal said that he could imagine two possible outcomes. One scenario is Makhachev taking Topuria down and forcing him into a long and exhausting fight on the ground. Masvidal emphasized that Topuria may be noticeably quicker and possesses extremely dangerous power.
