In a recent interview on Fox Business Network’s Making Money with Charles Payne, former boxer
Floyd Mayweather Jr. voiced his opinion supporting
Donald Trump’s return to the office. Ending his career with an undefeated 50-0 and with a net worth of $400 million, Mayweather has been on the forefront for his political views along with being an all out Trump supporter since a very long time now. However, this time, fans didn’t let him go off easy and criticized him for his raved appreciation towards the re-elected president. One of them even called him a "
sellout coon".
Floyd Mayweather dismisses discontent towards Donald Trump’s return to the office, says “no matter who goes in the White House, we're always upset.”
Mayweather's appreciation towards Trump is not of recent origin. As a strong supporter of the current president since his first term in office, Mayweather even attended his 2017 inauguration. To support and solidify his endorsement, the retired boxer brings in Trump's business background and claims that it is this very background that sets him apart, and makes him an ideal leader.
“Great business, great businessman and that’s what it’s about,” he stated, further adding “Trump has done an amazing job and a lot of people around America are upset. But no matter who goes in the White House, we're always upset.”
Mayweather unapologetically states how the American public often fails to appreciate leaders while they are in office. That being said, Mayweather strongly believes the country is in good hands.
“I think Trump is a great president, actually he’s the best president in my eyes, he’s the best president we’ve ever had. Great business man and that’s what it’s about,” he added to the rest of the interview.
Fans react to Floyd Mayweather’s comment, perceives it as a betrayal to the black community
While Mayweather is full of praises and instantly dismisses the criticism of Trump’s return to the office as a post-election phenomenon, it is to be noted that a certain section of netizens didn’t take the claim so well. Owing to the former boxer’s past controversial and polarizing comments, fans took to Twitter and expressed their discontentment with Mayweather.
One of them wrote: “Floyd Mayweather has the right to promote and support whoever he wants but …. Good Lord Floyd”
Another user tweeted: Floyd Mayweather: *cannot read* trump: "We love the uneducated."
“Floyd Mayweather can’t even read a page out of a Harry Potter book”
“Floyd Mayweather is a sellout coon”
The black folks have perceived Mayweather’s support for Trump as a betrayal to the community. Many believe that it is the virtue of the former boxer investing heavily in real estate that has shifted his inclination towards the president.
