Dustin Poirier's final UFC fight may be against Max Holloway in L... Read More
Dustin Poirier may not have claimed undisputed UFC gold, but his legacy as a “fighter’s fighter” is untouchable. The respect he commands from peers like Israel Adesanya and Khabib Nurmagomedov cements his status as an all-time great. Now, as ‘The Diamond’ prepares to call it a career, speculation is running wild about his final fight. The UFC has already granted his wish to fight in Louisiana, but the question remains—who will stand across from him for his last dance inside the Octagon? According to #9-ranked lightweight Beneil Dariush, we might already have an answer.

Dustin Poirier’s retirement fight confirmed – Who will he face?

During an interview with Submission Radio, Beneil Dariush was asked about Dustin Poirier’s potential opponent for his farewell fight. “I don’t know if it’s 100 percent sealed and done but that’s what I’m hearing,” Dariush revealed, hinting at a possible trilogy bout against BMF champion Max Holloway. If true, this would be a legendary sendoff. Poirier has already bested Holloway twice—once when the Hawaiian made his UFC debut at UFC 143 and again in an epic five-round war in 2019 for the interim lightweight title.

Holloway hasn’t fought since his devastating knockout loss to Ilia Topuria but still holds the BMF title he won by knocking out Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. Would he be willing to return so soon for another war? If the UFC wants a fight with history, excitement, and significance, Poirier vs. Holloway 3 checks every box.

Poirier confirmed the Louisiana location himself, telling the Outta Pocket podcast, “Look I got a call today from the UFC because they knew I was coming out here and doing radio row and all kinds of stuff and they knew fighting questions would pop up. They said, ‘You can go ahead and tell we’ve been in negotiations, we’re working on Louisiana for your retirement fight.’”

At 36, Poirier is ready to step away from the sport on his terms, focusing on his family and business ventures. His last fight promises to be a spectacle. Will Holloway be the one to share the Octagon with him one final time, or does Dana White have another legend in mind? Only time will tell.
