UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the pairings during an Instagram Live video on Wednesday night.
Muhammad was set to defend the title against Shavkat Rakhmonov. However, the UFC was unable to book Shavkat Rakhmonov in the main event due to injury, which forced the promotion to shift Della Maddalena into the title fight.
Muhammad won the welterweight title at UFC 304 in Manchester by defeating Leon Edwards via unanimous decision. Muhammad is known for his resilience and strategic fighting style, boasting an impressive record with multiple unanimous decision victories. He was out of the octagon due to a foot injury in December, which forced him to miss his first scheduled title defense at UFC 310. He returns to face the undefeated Della Maddalena, who holds a perfect 7-0 UFC record.
Maddelena secured a nine-fight winning streak, capturing the Eternal Welterweight Championship and defending it four times. Della Maddalena joined the UFC in 2022 and has since achieved notable victories, including a third-round knockout of Gilbert Burns at UFC 299. Despite facing an arm infection in mid-2024, which temporarily sidelined him, he has recovered and is all prepared for this title opportunity.
