Yankees Devin Williams admires Gerrit Cole’s in-depth knowledge about pitching

During the recent spring training session against the Minnesota Twins, the New York Yankees pitcher Devin Williams pointed out the exemplary knowledge of his fellow teammate Gerrit Cole. Williams was interviewed by the MLB Network at Tampa in Florida during the Yankees spring training. The former Milwaukee Brewers star even spoke about the list of tips he went on to learn and understand with respect to pitching from Gerrit Cole. He said-

"Honestly, I didn't really have much to say, but listening to Gerrit talk about. There's like a different bunch of analytical ERAs and how they calculate that. Just listening to him talk about it was kind of eye-opening to me."

The 30-year-old pitcher further mentioned:

"You're in the deep end if you're listening to Gerrit. I don't really get that far down the rabbit hole, but he had a lot of interesting things to say."

With an overall score of 4 against the Twins, Gerrit Cole admitted that he was not able to command over Ryan Jeffers and the team. While talking to the YES Network after the match, Cole said,

"Just seemed to be missing and then throwing it down the middle. Just repeated a lot of the pitches, trying to find some sort of groove, but just wasn't able to command it today."

He even reflected on the positive aspects of the game and mentioned:

"The movement was good. The velocity was good. The location was poor, and just a lot of bad counts. So, it didn't come down to just the fastball either. There was some offspeed early. That put us in the hole and then some bad-quality fastballs on fastball counts."

Devin Williams was introduced to the world of Major League Baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2019. During the same year, he even went on to secure the National Rookie of the Year title under his name. He was traded to the New York Yankees for an $8.9 million pre-arbitration deal with the team.
