The New York Yankees’ manager, Aaron Boone, got ejected on Tuesday amidst an argument with the home plate umpire, Mark Wegner, over a wrong call. The heated argument led to Boone getting ejected from the field for the rest of the game. But what was the reason behind the manager’s ejection? What was the wrong call that umpire Wegner made that forced Boone to enter the field? Here are the details.

Aaron Boone was ejected from the Yankees vs Mariners match

On Tuesday, the New York Yankees were facing the Seattle Mariners when a certain turn of events forced the Yankees manager to enter the field. In the ninth inning, the Yankees designated hitter, Jasson Domínguez, was facing the Mariners pitcher Andres Munoz.Munoz delivered a fastball to Jasson which reportedly crossed the center of the plate and was below the hitter’s kneecaps. However, umpire Wegner called it for third strike, which came as a shock for Jasson. He threw up his hands in exasperation and started walking towards the dugout.
However, Boone would not let it go and entered the field to discuss the matter with Wegner. The discussion accelerated to a full-fledged argument, lasting for at least a minute, after which the base umpire, Bruce Dreckman, had to interfere.
When the mics were turned towards Boone, fans heard him saying, “You don’t think so?” which fans interpreted as Boone questioning the umpire’s decision. The heated argument caused the Yankees’ manager his second ejection of the season and he had to step out of the field.

Aaron Boone explains his reaction

Post-match, when Aaron Boone was asked the reason behind his sudden outburst in the field, Boone replied,“You don’t see J.D. react like that. I was trying to just go out and make sure J.D. was staying in the game. I was trying to get my player out of there, and I thought it was kind of a quick [ejection] there. So, that’s all it was. Clearly, he missed one in a big spot.”However, when the Yankees’ designated hitter was asked about the scenario, his reply clearly indicated how grateful he was for Boone supporting the players.“I was mad for a little bit. I’m not going to say what I said to him, but I said some words…our manager. It was not just with me but for everybody. He’s always taking care of our backs.”The match ended with the Yankees losing to the Mariners with a 2-1 score. Also Read: Aaron Boone opens up on emotional push for Pete Rose Hall of Fame return
