Patrick Mooney said on Saturday that the Cubs do discuss big names like Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette, and Alex Bregman, but mostly in a “what if” way.

Speaking around the 14:57 mark of the podcast, Mooney made it clear this was not inside news, but his informed view based on years covering the team.

“When you see the top three names on the big board, you do start to wonder,” Mooney said. “But I just don’t see them going all-out on a mega long-term contract right now.”

Mooney explained that the Cubs’ front office often talks through scenarios. They ask what a deal would cost, how it would fit the roster, and if it makes sense long term.

Still, he stressed that Chicago is careful with massive contracts, even though fans believe the team has money ready to spend.

He also noted agent ties. Alex Bregman is represented by Scott Boras, while Kyle Tucker works with Excel Sports.

Mooney added that Bo Bichette could make sense as a long-term piece, but the price tag remains the main issue.
