During her studies, she was part of the Miami Marlins 'Mermaids' cheerleading squad. Her involvement in cheerleading was mentioned in profiles related to players and the team at that time. How Manny Machado and Yainee Alonso Met

Manny Machado met Yainee Alonso via her brother, Yonder Alonso. At that point, Machado was still a teenager and was tight with Yonder, who had already made it as a pro baseball player.

As reported by People, Machado first met Yainee on a family vacation in Spain back in the winter of 2011. Their bond grew organically through family get-togethers, practice sessions, and time spent in baseball communities.

Before being into the relationship, Machado wanted to get Yonder Alonso’s thumbs up. Yonder later remembered that moment in an interview featured by People, saying, “I told him, ‘Look, as long as you respect her and be there for her,’ … we were friends before, and we’ll be friends afterward.”

Why Manny Machado called his 2013 proposal to Yainee Alonso “a mess”

On February 6, 2013, Manny Machado proposed to Yainee Alonso in South Beach, Florida. The proposal occurred after a day where the kitchen sink broke, and on the beach, they had to dodge a sleeping homeless man.


Machado recounted to USA Today, "I was a mess. I was struggling to get the ring out. It was stuck in my pocket." Yainee Alonso said, "He's on his knees and talking, saying sweet things, and I didn't even hear him propose. Guys think that it's like the movies, the woman says yes automatically. But you are so in shock. I finally said yes, but then I asked him to ask me again, because I didn't hear him."

Manny Machado’s family life and children

Manny Machado and Yainee Alonso had their baby boy in April 2024. They're keeping the name under wraps. Machado went on the paternity list to support his wife during the birth. He mentioned to reporters that he caught nearly every moment of the Rockies series while he was away.

In an Instagram post after the 2018 season, Machado wrote: "Couldn't have done it without you by my side!!!" On her birthday in 2020, he posted, "Happy birthday to the most beautiful amazing person in this planet, that I get to call my wife!!!!! Wishing you nothing but continuous happiness and love forever I love you!!!!!!!! May all your wishes become reality!!!!! Forever my sweetheart."

Machado said about their lifestyle, "People think, 'Oh, you're a big-leaguer, you live in Miami, you can probably go to any club you want,' The truth is that we are boring. We don't really let people in. We've got a very close circle, and that's it. For us, it's all about family."
