Mookie Betts and Brianna Hammonds are high school sweethearts

Mookie Betts and Brianna Hammonds first met each other in middle school when Betts was in 8th grade, and Brianna was in seventh. During an interview with Ebony, Hammonds recalled how one of her best friends had a huge crush on Mookie. Recalling the days of her high school romance, Hammonds said:

“One of my best friends who passed away thought [Mookie] was cute and I said, 'Girl go talk to him!’ She was too scared to talk to him, so I told him, 'My girlfriend likes you. Will you talk to her?' …And he kept saying no."


During the same interview Mookie Betts revealed how he found Brianna Hammonds cute the way she approached him for her friend. However, back then, he was more interested in sports and video games. Interestingly, several months later, the MLB star decided to take a risk and ask Hammonds out on a date. Talking about the same, he said:

"When I finally asked her out, she said she didn’t hear me, but she heard me…So the next day I end up asking her again. I’m thinking, You get one shot. I only have but so much courage, I’m pacing in my room and thinking, I ain’t asking again. I don’t know what [made] me ask again. She said yes and my MySpace status changed."

Mookie Betts and Brianna Hammonds got married less than a year after being engaged

In January 2021, Mookie Betts sat on his knee to propose to Brianna Hammonds with a radiant-cut diamond ring. It was an intimate engagement ceremony in Nashville with around 40 close friends and family members of the couple. During an interview with PEOPLE, Betts revealed how he read a romantic poem to Hammonds while proposing to her. The poem goes like:

"Winning another World Series was great, but putting a ring on my MVP is the real blessing! I am a blessed man."


In December 2021, Mookie Betts and Brianna Hammonds got married. Their nuptials took place in California at a luxurious oceanfront venue i.e., Terranea Resort. Unlike their engagement, which was kept intimate, more than 200 guests attended the couple's wedding, including Dodgers co-owners and players.

Three years before their wedding, Mookie Betts and Brianna Hammonds welcomed their first child into this world, in November 2018. The couple named him Kynlee Ivory Betts. Almost a week after their first wedding anniversary, Betts and Hammonds announced their second pregnancy. The couple's second son Kaj Lynn Betts was born in April 2023.
