According to FOX Sports, the game drew 10.784 million viewers, making it the most-watched final in World Baseball Classic history. The numbers were much higher than the last edition and showed how this year’s tournament connected with a wider audience.

Viewership jumped even more late in the game. Around 12.148 million people were watching between 10:30 and 10:45 p.m. ET. That spike came right after Bryce Harper hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to tie the game for Team USA.

But the game did not stay level for long. Venezuela came back in the ninth inning and got the go-ahead hit that decided the result. That quick change kept fans watching closely, as the outcome was not clear until the final moments.

The way the game played out made a big difference in viewership. It stayed close, and both teams had their chances late. Moments like Harper’s home run and the final hit from Venezuela added to the tension.

The previous final had around 4.48 million viewers, which means this year’s game saw a 128 percent increase. Across FOX, FS1, and FS2, games averaged 1.294 million viewers, up by 156 percent.

Earlier, the semifinal between Team USA and the Dominican Republic had already set a record with 7.369 million viewers. That mark did not last long, as the final went past it. All of this points to one thing. More people are watching the World Baseball Classic now, and close games like this final are a big reason why.
