“There's no beef,": Cal Raleigh responds after Randy Arozarena unleashes four-language rant after WBC snub
Tension between Cal Raleigh and Randy Arozarena briefly dominated the ongoing World Baseball Classic after a viral moment of a declined handshake between the Seattle Mariners teammates sparked debate across social media. Fans started talking about the possibility of a rift when a clip of the tournament was spread online, with most people wondering if the interaction was indicative of deeper tension between the pair. The situation escalated when Arozarena gave a fiery and profanity-laced response while addressing the incident. Raleigh has since addressed the debate in an attempt to calm the controversy and clarify his position.
"There's no beef," Raleigh said on FaceTime with the Mariners media team after Team USA’s 5-3 win over Team Mexico in Houston on March 09. "I love Randy. Like I said, when we're back in Seattle, he's my brother. He's family."
“I’ll do anything for our team to win, and to me it shouldn’t be that big a deal. But these games do matter. I think it’s important. Each individual’s country's emotions are running high. They’re not just exhibition games. These are super important and you know I have a responsibility to my teammates and my country to be locked in and focused each game and do everything I can to win. I’m here to win the World Baseball Classic for my country. All I’m doing is trying to win,” the Mariners catchers added.
However, Raleigh's reaction implied it was possible that the viral clip may have been exaggerated. The catcher has made a name for himself around Seattle as a leader in the clubhouse, and the remarks made suggested that he is still looking to keep a great relationship with Arozarena once both players are back on the field in the MLB.
"How do you think I should respond to Cal Raleigh? How should I put it to him? I want to say it in four languages," Arozarena said (translated to English). "First in Spanish: The only thing he should be thankful for is having such great parents. He’s very well educated, thank God. I was lucky enough to see them a few days ago at the hotel. They came over to greet me, gave me a big hug, and were genuinely proud to see me again.
After that, I want to give it to him straight, Cuban style: What he has to do is f*** off! Mexican style: Go to hell! And in English: That fake a** “good to see you” he hit me with? He can shove it straight up his a**. I’m out."
The dramatic reaction immediately sparked debate among fans and analysts, with many questioning whether this rant reflected a true sense of frustration or simply the elevated emotions that often accompany international competition. Despite the fiery exchange making headlines, Raleigh's composed response indicates that the Mariners teammates might be able to move on from this controversy when the tournament is over and attention returns to the MLB season.

Cal Raleigh and Randy Arozarena's viral WBC controversy
The buzz surrounding Raleigh and Arozarena came after a brief exchange during the World Baseball Classic, which seemed awkward to some viewers. Arozarena, representing Mexico (Team Mexico) in the international tournament, has become one of the most recognizable figures in the event. Raleigh, meanwhile, entered the conversation after his interaction with the outfielder drew attention online. As speculation mounted, Raleigh dealt directly with the matter, insisting that the moment had been misunderstood and that there was no real conflict between the two Mariners teammates."There's no beef," Raleigh said on FaceTime with the Mariners media team after Team USA’s 5-3 win over Team Mexico in Houston on March 09. "I love Randy. Like I said, when we're back in Seattle, he's my brother. He's family."
